House
passes bill undoing Obama internet privacy rule

The House on Tuesday
voted in favor of blocking internet privacy rules passed by the Federal
Communications Commission (FCC) last year, sending the bill to President Trump,
who is expected to sign it into law.
The bill passed 215 to
205, with 15 Republicans joining 190 Democrats voting against it.
The FCC rules would
have given consumers greater control over what their internet service provider
can do with their data by requiring those companies to get permission from
customers before using their information to create targeted advertisements.
The rules had not yet
gone into effect.
The bill, which passed
the Senate last week in a party-line vote, invokes a law called the
Congressional Review Act (CRA) that allows Congress to undo recently passed
regulations. A CRA bill also prohibits agencies from passing similar
regulations in the future.
The White House has said that it supports the
bill.
The opposition to the
regulations was led by Republicans and the telecom industry, who argue that
they are too costly and confusing. They say the rules would have subjected
internet service providers to restrictions that do not apply to websites like Facebook and Google, which also
collect consumer information for data-driven ads.
“The FCC didn’t
embrace a technology-neutral framework for privacy,” Jon Leibowitz, co-chair of
the industry group 21st Century Privacy Coalition, said in a call with
reporters Tuesday.
“It instead set out an
overbroad definition of sensitive data that doesn’t apply to non-ISP’s
collecting as much or more personal data online. And as we all know, privacy
shouldn’t be about who collects information, it should be about what
information is collected and how it is used.”
But Democrats and
privacy advocates say that the rules would have been a step toward protecting
consumer privacy, and that service providers should not have free reign to sell
data to advertisers.
“Your broadband provider knows deeply personal
information about you and your family – where you are, what you want to know,
every site you visit, and more,” House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.)
said in a statement before the vote Tuesday.
“They can even track you when you’re surfing in a private
browsing mode. You deserve to be able to insist that those intimate details be
kept private and secure.”
After the vote, Sen. Ed
Markey (D-Mass.) announced
that he intends to introduce a bill instructing the FCC to reinstate privacy
rules.
The privacy rules were
passed under the authority that the FCC gained from its landmark 2015 net
neutrality rules. Those rules prohibited internet service providers from
blocking or slowing traffic to certain websites.
The net neutrality rules
also reclassified service providers as common carriers, which means they were
subject to tougher regulations from the FCC — like the privacy rules.
The vote was
immediately condemned by activists and applauded by industry groups.
“It is extremely
disappointing that Congress is sacrificing the privacy rights of Americans in
the interest of protecting the profits of major internet companies including
Comcast, AT&T, and Verizon. President Trump now has the opportunity to veto
this resolution and show he is not just a president for CEOs but for all
Americans," ACLU legislative counsel Neema Singh Giuliani said in a
statement. "Trump should use his power to protect everyone’s right to
privacy.”
“Today’s action is
another step to remove unnecessary rules and regulations that handicap economic
growth and innovation, and moves the country one step closer to ensuring that
consumers’ private information is protected uniformly across the entire
internet ecosystem," countered Jonathan Spalter, CEO of USTelecom.
"Consumers can rest easy today knowing their privacy is protected under
existing FCC authority, which requires companies to keep consumers’ data
safe."
If the rules were to
go into effect, they would classify certain consumer data as “sensitive” — like
browsing history, app usage and financial and medical information — and require
service providers to ask permission before using it for advertising.
Customers would also
be able to opt out of letting those companies use and share “non-sensitive”
information.
FCC Chairman Ajit Pai,
a Republican who opposed the rules as a minority commissioner in October,
applauded the vote in a statement, saying that he will work to impose a
technology-neutral privacy regime.
“Moving forward, I
want the American people to know that the FCC will work with the FTC to ensure
that consumers’ online privacy is protected though a consistent and
comprehensive framework," Pai said.
"In my view, the
best way to achieve that result would be to return jurisdiction over broadband
providers’ privacy practices to the FTC, with its decades of experience and
expertise in this area.”
Democrats and
activists waged a furious campaign against the bill, trying to peg Republicans
as anti-privacy.
An advocacy group
called Fight for the Future pledged to put up billboards in Washington and other areas calling out those who voted
to repeal the rules.
And Tuesday,
Pelosi called on the largest internet service providers to state whether
they are in favor of the CRA bill.
“Americans learned
last week that agents of Russian intelligence hacked into e-mail accounts to
obtain secrets on American companies, government officials and more,” Pelosi
wrote in letters to 11 companies.
“This resolution would not only end the
requirement you take reasonable measures to protect consumers’ sensitive
information, but prevents the FCC from enacting a similar requirement and
leaves no other agency capable of protecting consumers.”
Studios Win Injunction to Shut Down 6 Torrent Websites Including PubFilm.com and PidTV.com
We had reported last week about how Pubfilm.com was engaged in a battle with media companies over copyright infringement. It seems that the media companies have won this round against Pubfilm.com and PidTV.com.
A United States court federal judge has granted studios’ request to shut down the operation of PubFilm and PidTV for trafficking in large-scale piracy of recent movie releases. U.S. District Judge Victor Marrero granted studios a temporary restraining order on Feb. 7 and a preliminary injunction on Feb. 17 to halt the distribution of movies on the sites, and to suspend the domain names through which the sites operate.
The court order is effectively immediately and the media companies have already asked the Registrar to block Pubfilm.com and PidTV.com.
More Torrent websites to be blocked
Having tasted blood the media companies and its spearhead MPAA are sure to move to court to get more torrent websites blocked. In this particular case, MPAA had requeseted banning of six inter-connected torrent websites and movie streaming websites including Pubfilm.com and PidTV.com. They asked the injunction against both the websites stating that the defendants “operate at the shadowy margins of the internet, easily to disappear or move their operations beyond this court’s jurisdiction, thereby rendering plaintiffs’ enforcement efforts futile.”
The media companies told the court that they were unsure about the location from which both Pubfilm.com and Pidtv.com operated bet believed there were in Vietnam. The defendants in case, Pubfilm and Pidtv did not show up for court hearings.
According to the studios, PubFilm’s sites were one of the most active pirate streaming sites in the country, with more than 8 million visits each month. About 40% of users were linked to U.S. IP addresses.
“The ring of large-scale piracy sites known as PubFilm/PidTV distributed vast numbers of stolen movies and television shows for streaming and downloading — all for the financial benefit of its operators, without paying a dime to those who worked so hard to make them,” said a spokesman for the MPAA. “By seeking legal orders to stop these illegal commercial enterprises, we are protecting the hard work of the millions of people who contribute to the American creative economy.”
Pubfilm.com has already moved its domain to PubFilm.ac expecting a averse decision form the courts while the fate of PidTV is not known.

Bright | Teaser [HD] | Netflix
Set in a world where mystical creatures live side by side with humans. A human cop is forced to work with an Orc to find a weapon everyone is prepared to kill for.
EXCLUSIVE: A two-week bidding battle has finally ended and Netflix has won Bright, a Max Landis scripted cop thriller with fantastical elements and tent pole potential that David Ayer will direct, with Will Smith and Joel Edgerton starring. This is a game changer: Netflix’s Ted Sarandos got a big ticket feature, and he paid a premium for it. I’m told that Netflix will invest north of $90M in the entire package. That includes north of $3M for the Landis script, making it one of the largest spec deals for a writer in years. The film will cost around $45M to shoot, meaning that just about that much will be invested in talent fees, and also to buy out their back ends; while there could be a limited theatrical launch day and date, Netflix is doing this to serve subscribers to its streaming service in countries around the world and so there will be no backend residuals. This deal dwarfs by one-third the premium that Netflix paid to get the David Michod-directed War Machine, starring and produced by Brad Pitt.

Kodi Boxes Illgeal
Is it legal now?
The confusion around the legality of the boxes is so great that it could take a court case involving Middlesbrough trader Brian Thompson to help settle it.
Mr Thompson is thought to be the first man brought to court to face allegations of selling pre-loaded Kodi or Android boxes.
That, claims prosecutors, is illegal.
The result of that trial, on May 8, could set a precedent over the legality of the boxes.

Windows Store breaks Kodi TV app update; Microsoft plans to fix it
Jack Bower : BLOG by Jack: http://jackbowerchannel.blogspot.com
Kodi, the popular media center app, came out
as a UWP app not too long ago. Users have so far enjoyed the new version of the
app, but a bug in the Windows Store has so far prevented them from getting the
newest version. The update has been failing for many users who download Kodi
via the Windows Store, keeping version 17.1 out of their hands.
A recent announcement from Kodi on Twitter
shows that they’re aware of the bug, and a fix is currently being worked on by
Microsoft.
Is the Kodi v17.1 update
failing to install through Windows Store? Please be patient as @Microsoft will send a patch this
week fixing it
There’s no word right now on an exact date for
the patch, but “this week” can only mean so many things when it’s said on a
Thursday night. Users experiencing the bug can expect a fix coming out in the
next couple of days.

Internet Backbone Cogent Blocks Cloudflare’s New ‘Pirate Site’ IP-addresse BLOCKING
The Pirate Bay and several other pirate sites are unavailable again in many parts of the world, due to a new blockade from Internet backbone provider Cogent. The site's IP-addresses, which are owned by CDN provider Cloudflare, have been blackholed, in what appears to be another case of over-blocking.
Last month, news broke that Cogent, which operates one of the largest Internet backbone networks, blackholed IP-addresses that were linked to several ‘pirate’ sites including The Pirate Bay.
As a result of this action, people from all over the world were unable to access their favorite download or streaming portals.
The blocking intervention was quite controversial, not least because the IP-addresses in question don’t belong to the sites themselves, but to the popular CDN provider Cloudflare.
After the mysterious blocking efforts were first reported, we found out that Cogent acted in response to a Spanish court order. This compelled the company to block the IP-addresses in question.
Ironically, many of the popular pirate sites were not the direct target, but collateral damage simply because they shared the same IP.
In response, Cloudflare moved The Pirate Bay and other ‘innocent’ sites to a new set of IP-addresses, so they became accessible once more. Cloudflare’s General Counsel Doug Kramer further informed us that they worked together with Cogent to prevent similar over-blocking issues in the future.
“We have taken technical steps on our end to permit Cogent to comply with a court order issued to them without additional impacts,” Kramer informed TorrentFreak.
Despite this promising collaboration, however, Cogent has now blocked Cloudflare’s new IP-addresses as well. This effectively renders The Pirate Bay and other sites such as TorrentProject, Icefilms, Torlock, Popcorn-Time, Movie4k and 1Channel inaccessible on its network.

KODI ECHO wizard Closed
Echo, A New Dawn.....
Hello All Echo Users!
Thank you for opening Echo Wizard, however today I have some news.
From this point forth I will be moving to a fantastic community with TVA Addons.
I am doing this as I believe it is the best way for me to contribute to the community and it gives me the best platform possible to move forward with my addon development.
I will no longer need to worry about the little things that come with what I do. i.e Maintaining a Server, moving hosts when they go down etc.
I will be able to concentrate purely on my addon development which means I can bring more content to the table.
So with this being said. You are seeing this message as today Echo Wizard closes.
I know and understand that Echo Wizard has become a major part of a lot of peoples Kodi lives over the last year so rest assured I am not just walking away from what has been done here.
I have assurances from TV Addons that I can bring my ideas into the development of Indigo.
One big change that you will notice is that TV ADDONS doesn’t support builds. This is for several reasons including security concerns (builds can contain malicious code or unsafe addons) and due to the fact that the large size of most builds actually result in slower performance. TV ADDONS does have their own Config Wizard function in Indigo in case anyone is interested in a preconfiguration.
It is my aim to get Indigo to surpass Echo Wizard and make it a better addition to your system than Echo Wizard ever was.
I hope you understand the decision and give me your full backing and support in the journey ahead.
Thank You!

MINECRAFT Cheat Codes March 2017
Minecraft contains a menagerie of virtual creatures, some of which players can kill and eat (or tame, if they want pets). One, a red-and-white cowlike critter called a mooshroom, is known for moseying about aimlessly. Jordan realized he could harness the animal’s movement to produce randomness. He built a pen out of gray stones and installed “pressure plates” on the floor that triggered a trap inside the maze. He stuck the mooshroom inside, where it would totter on and off the plates in an irregular pattern.
Presto: Jordan had used the cow’s weird behavior to create, in effect, a random-number generator inside Minecraft. It was an ingenious bit of problem-solving, something most computer engineers I know would regard as a great hack — a way of coaxing a computer system to do something new and clever.
NETFLIX Top Secret Codes March 2017
Good news for Netflix users - you can use hidden codes to make searching the extensive streaming site easier.
It seems not all content appears when you search Netflix but you can access every category simply by typing a code into the URL.
Changing the digits of the code at the end means you can browse through all the categories on the popular streaming service.
So if you are a fan of action and adventure, biographical dramas or classic comedies, the hidden codes will allow you to open up more sub-genres to watch.
The codes do not work everywhere though - depending on your location and IP address you may be limited to only some of the genres.

Kodi WARNING Kodi users will be threatened with 10 YEARS in PRISON
The Government's Digital Economy Bill could hand copyright trolls the opportunity to threaten online users with prison sentences of up to 10 years.
According to a new campaign page by the Open Rights Group – a digital campaigning organisation that aims to protect the rights to privacy and free speech online – the Bill criminalises minor copyright infringement.
Open Rights Group want to change the Digital Economy Bill so that it is more specific.
The Government wants to use the Bill to increase penalties for criminals running websites that allow people to download copyright-protected material.
However the proposed legislation will criminalise any infringement where money has not been paid for copyrighted content, or where it can be proven that there is a "risk of loss".

UK Box Seller Jail Sentence Protect yourself today!
A HARTLEPOOL man who sold illegal internet TV boxes that allowed pubs and clubs to screen pay-to-view TV free of charge has received a suspended prison sentence and been ordered to pay £250,000.
Malcolm Mayes, 65, of Egerton Road, received a ten-month prison sentence suspended for one year when he appeared at Teesside Crown Court yesterday (Monday 6th March 2017) and admitted breaching the Copyright, Designs & Patents Act 1988 by advertising and selling adapted IPTV boxes.
He was also ordered to pay costs of £170,000 and a Proceeds of Crime Order was made against him for a further £80,000.
IPTV boxes - sometimes called ‘Android’ boxes or ‘Kodi’ boxes - allow users to watch television and movies streamed via the internet. The boxes themselves are not illegal but when modified can be used to freely view content that should otherwise be paid for, including live sport and new movies. A box modified in this way is often described as being ‘fully loaded’.
Mayes was prosecuted by Hartlepool Borough Council’s Trading Standards department following a lengthy international investigation by the National Trading Standards North East Enforcement Team.

Kodi Fans: Netflix Users. Exodus.123 Movies No Stream issue.REMOVE ISP B...
ISPs are only required to block the torrent websites that host the .torrent files. These .torrent files contain the file metadata and tracker addresses that let your chosen torrenting software know the multiple sources it can get a particular file from, be it a movie, a TV show, a recent Linux distro or a piece of open-source software. When you torrent a file, it comes in dribs and drabs from users around the world who are seeding the file.
The key point here is the torrent websites themselves don't host any actual content - they just host the .torrent files that tell you where you can get it. For this reason, you just need to bypass the site-blocking far enough to get to the .torrent files.
Netflix’s passive-aggressive war with the world’s internet service providers rages on. The streaming giant launched a free speed test website, so you can check if you’re really getting the internet speeds that you pay for.
It also, interestingly, offers a way to specifically test whether or not you’re getting Netflix at the speeds you pay for. See the video for test results.
